Early Holiday Shopping

Early Holiday Shopping

With temperatures in the 70’s, it doesn’t feel like the holiday season is quickly approaching, but people are already out tackling their holiday shopping lists, like Debbie Miller of Somerset. She says she started her shopping at the end of the summer and is down to the hard stuff right now-shopping for teenagers.

"Because they’re so picky. I usually just take them, let them pick it out, and then we have to wrap it and put it under the tree. Then they have to open it and be surprised, " says Miller.

Shoppers we spoke with say their holiday shopping habits have changed this year with more stores promoting those special holiday savings in October.

"I appreciate that they’ve started early because not everybody can get to every store Friday morning after Thanksgiving. It’s nice that they’re spreading it out. I think they’ll get more customers that way," says shopper Jeannie Schehl.

That’s the idea-to get more traffic in and out of these stores. Financial experts say retailers are doing whatever they can to still survive in a struggling economy.
