Budget assessments for the new year in Muskingum County are underway.
Officials from the Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District met with the Muskingum County Commissioners on Monday to discuss anticipated budgetary plans for the new fiscal year.
"Nothing’s in concrete but this is you know what we’re looking at, they have made their necessary cut backs where they could, so until we know what their final numbers are and state match, we can go from there," said County Commissioner Jerry Lavy.
With John Kasich as newly appointed Governor, Lavy said not only will the state budget be changing, but also what is funneled down to the local level.
"We don’t know what any of those anticipated budget cuts may be, I know that they have a gap there that they’re going to have to fill of around of what they’re saying 7 or 8 billion dollars," he said.
Additional meetings will be held to determine the future of their budget.
