A Zanesville home suffers major damage following a late Saturday afternoon fire.

It happened around 3:45 p.m. at 3515 Ridge Avenue.

Smoke was visible several miles from the home. Upon arrival, crews say they found heavy smoke coming from the front door. After surveying the area, they then discovered flames around the backside of the structure. Zanesville Fire Lieutenant Martin Mercer says the fire appears to have started in the basement, but the exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Mercer says there were three people home at the time of the fire, but they all made it out safely.
