American Electric Power donates funds towards Zane State’s new Advanced Science and Technology Center.

Representatives of the company presented the college with a check for $200,000 from the American Electric Power Foundation.

"Education and environment are two of their main goals," said Paul Prater community affairs manager at AEP. "This facility will help with those objectives.

Zane State College President Dr. Brown said the science and technology program is a growing one at Zane State, teaching technicians to work in hospitals and providing workers for energy programs.

"The nation really depends on areas like Southeastern Ohio to provide energy that’s needed in fossil fuel and clean energy sector,"explained Dr. Brown. "It’s important to the region and creating jobs and it’s nation as solving energy problems."

AEP has employed between 60-65 Zane State students since 2000. One of those is William Bagpin who is an account manager for the company.

"The program is expanding," said Bagpin. "They really need space and I talk to my instructor Mr. Davis all the time and their program is really expanding and it will really help the facility accommodate."

So far the fundraising campaign for the Cambridge Expansion and the Advanced Science and Technology Center has raised a total of $million and another $million in grants for equipment.

They hope to break ground in 2012.

Dr. Brown hopes this donation from AEP encourages others to make donations to the facilities.
