Area children are receiving Christmas gifts early this season.

The Rotary Club of Zanesville held its annual Christmas party Tuesday afternoon at Adornetto’s Restaurant on Maple Avenue. 63 local elementary school children, their teachers and aides were invited to enjoy a delicious meal and to open up presents given to them by Santa.

"We just talk with the Zanesville City Schools, it is typically through their special needs classes and that is how they are chosen and it’s certainly a gift to each and every one of us that we get to spend this day with them," said Club Member Kelly Ashby.

Ashby said the club has fundraisers throughout the year so they afford to host events like this one. She said it’s heartwarming to see the job these presents bring to all the children.

"The kids and the smiles on their faces and their laughter and to see Santa just makes a wonderful wonderful Christmas gift."

The Rotary Club has been hosting this event for more than 80 years.
