The Superintendent of the West Muskingum School District has handed in her resignation.
Board of Education President Bob Moon says Sharon Smith announced her resignation at the last board meeting earlier this month.
He says her last day with the District will be on July 31st.
Moon says her resignation came as a surprise and that the Board is sorry to see her go.
He says they appreciate everything she’s done for the district.
Smith has served as Superintendent since 2006.
Before that she was Director of Curriculum for the District from 1991 to 1997.
Moon says the Board will begin the process of searching for a new Superintendent after the first of the year.
Their next board meeting is January 6th.
Superintendent Smith was unable to be reached for a comment.
