Kids and teenagers in Muskingum County have the opportunity to experience the thrill of being a basketball star.
The Zanesville Civic League is gathering players for it’s Partnership for County Wide Basketball, which is a league for kids ages 5-16 years old.
"Some kids don’t make their junior high team or their looking for something for their kids to do, there’s a lot of practice going on after school and the games are played on Saturday," said Howard Stewart from the Zanesville Civic League.
Last year 140 kids participated in this free program and Stewart hopes to gather at least 100 this year. He especially enjoys teaching those playing for the first time.
"At the younger age it’s just a thrill to watch them," said Stewart. "They grab the ball. They’re learning how to dribble. They may go the wrong way, they may go the right way. Especially to see a little boy or girl grab the ball, shoot it and make a basket and turn around at mom, dad or grandma and see their face light up. It’s just enthusiastic. That’s what it’s all about."
Stewart spoke to County Commissioners about giving money to support the program and encourages anyone who wants to be involved or provide items to call the Zanesville Civic League at (740) 452-7401.
