Local law enforcement agencies are gearing up for the upcoming holiday weekend.
According to AAA, nearly 3.5 million Ohioans will travel 50 miles or more during the holidays. To ensure the safety of all drivers, the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol will be monitoring the roadways more closely.
"We traditionally will make sure that we have a full allotment of troopers on the road specifically what we watch out for is crash causing violations, trying to keep traffic slowed down, and taking strict enforcement measures," said Sgt. Chuck Merrymen.
He said these efforts are especially helpful during the holidays with more traveling going on.
He offers some advice, "give yourself a little bit more time to drive from A to B, drive defensively and if you do plan on drinking make arrangements for a designated driver."
Reports indicate that during December of 2009, 753 people were killed in crashes that involved a driver or motorcyclists with a B.A.C. concentration of .08 or higher.
