One Local Hero Needs Your Help

One Zanesville family is asking the community to help a local hero.

Mother Kelly Salisbury says her 28-year-old son Brandon Shaver joined the military when he was 19.  While he was in Iraq, he was seriously injured in an ammunition dump explosion.  He was then awarded The Purple Heart in Washington D.C.

"We were at Walter Reed. He received it at Walter Reed. And there is so many soldiers who have gotten hurt and he doesn’t think anything of it. To him, he did his job. I am proud of him. I am always proud of him," said Salisbury.

But Brandon’s suffering did not end in Iraq, in October of 2010, he was in a motorcycle accident in Crooksville.  Some of his injuries included bleeding on the brain, a broken bone in his back, and a broken hip.  To date, Brandon has had five surgeries with probably more to come. Now more than ever, Brandon’s family is asking for the community’s help by coming to a Benefit for Brandon.

"We just want to come together and help him now. Show him that we appreciate him, and he has a lot of medical bills that he is going to have a hard time paying for," said Salisbury.

The benefit will be held on Saturday, January 8th from 3 to 11 PM at Old Licking View School. HB 7 will also be performing from 8-11 PM. If you cannot make the benefit, and would still like to donate, you can call Kelly Salisbury at (740) 408-3658.
