Time may be running out to visit one of Zanesville’s best kept secrets.
The Zane Trace National Model Railroad Club held its annual open house Saturday afternoon. The public was invited to explore the intricate railroad track that takes up the entire third floor of the Old Business Equipment Building in the downtown area.
"It’s a fictitious railroad from Zanesville to Charleston West Virginia, none exist but this is kind of how we came up with the plan everybody likes the Ohio and West Virginia scenery," said Club President Mike Spinks.
Spinks says the club has spent nearly 20 years working on the project. It has been featured in the Modern Railroaders Magazine. He says however, that there may be a chance it will have to be completely torn down.
"The building is up for sale, if it’s sold, hopefully whoever buys it, lets us stay, if not we’ll be looking for a new place possibly."
He says the club should find that answer out sometime within the next few weeks.
