The countdown to the Muskingum County Fair is underway. It’s just 172 days until fried food, 4H projects and rides.
Wednesday a big announcement came that country music star Rodney Atkins will be the featured entertainment. He’s charted seven Top 20 singles with songs like, "Watching You," "It’s America" and "Farmer’s Daughter". For the fair board there was some pressure to top last year’s group, Lady Antebellum.
"It’s very difficult to do," said Fair Board President Darrel Cubbison. "We think with his popularity it’s going to be a great great show."
Tickets for the show go on sale April 2nd at 9 a.m. They can only be purchased by using the Muskingum County Fair’s website.
The concert will be held on Thursday of fair week instead of the usual Friday.
"With the scheduling with the way he’s running his routes that just worked out for us," explained Cubbison. "We’re making some other changes this year to meet that need."
The changes include moving the Nationwide Demolition Derby to Friday of fair week. Cubbison also said they’ll move the entertainment stage to accommodate a larger area.
The 165th Annual Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair starts Sunday August 14 and runs through Saturday the 20th.
