Zanesville City officials get a pitch for broadband access, but there is a catch.
Horizon Telecommunications presented its plan to the Zanesville City Public Service Committee Tuesday afternoon. The ‘Connecting Appalachia to Broadband’ project is part of stimulus funding aimed at providing high speed internet along with phone service to businesses, hospitals, and municipalities, but not residential service.
Public Service Director Mike Sims said the problem is the company wants a piece of city owned property.
"I think it’s a good project for the community; however, for us to give up a piece of city property, I think they’re ought to be some positive aspect for the city in that," said Sims.
Sims said more discussion on the project is needed before bringing it to city council
