Dry Weather helps Street Crews

Dry conditions allow City of Zanesville Street Department crews to dig in to fix area potholes.

Three crews spent time going ward to ward scouring the areas and filling in potholes along the way.

"The operation of filling them when it’s under dry conditions goes pretty smoothly unless they have to dig out preexisting patch that takes a little extra time," said Public Service Director Mike Sims.

At this time crews can only patch the holes with a temporary cold mix and while it may look redundant to citizens it’s the only fix they can provide until the hot mix facilities open in the spring. While crews are working Sims ask that motorists watch out.

"It’s dangerous for them to be out on the street. We do have flashing lights on the vehicles, they do wear safety vests," said Sims. "I implore the public respect that and slow down when they’re in construction zones because it could be very dangerous for them."

While no pothole damage reports have been submitted from citizens Sims reminds motorists the city is only responsible if they knew about the pothole and did nothing to fix it .
