Letter to Encourage Lawmakers

The Transportation Improvement District hopes a letter to government officials will lead to continue funding.

Mike Jacoby shared with other board members and local officials a letter he hopes to send to State Representative Troy Balderson and Ohio Senator Jimmy Stewart. The hope is the document will encourage lawmakers to continue funding of the Transportation Improvement District.

"We know the budget is going to be very tight," said Jacoby. "We don’t know what kind of chance we stand, but we felt like we had to lay it out there and make the request."

Currently the state provides around $250,000 a year in support to the Muskingum County district. Jacoby’s concerned a cut in funding could hurt local projects.

"It allows us to undertake projects," explained Jacoby. "We think forward and actually make plans and do something proactive then only address something when it becomes a problem."

In the past the Transportation Improvement District has used the money for road improvement projects and feasibility studies.
