Authorities said Tuesday the event’s leading up to the Sunday murder of a Zanesville man may have begun in Muskingum County.
Detectives at the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office have been following up on leads into the death of 35-year-old Jason Miller. The sheriff won’t speculate on what the motivation was for killing the man.
"We’re trying to glean what type of associates he had and what his contacts were in Guernsey County," said Sheriff Mike McCauley. "We believe the actual events started in Muskingum County and came to Guernsey."
The sheriff said that detectives believe that Miller was shot where his body was found on Howell Road and they’ve been in contact with Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz as an additional resource.
"It’s taxing on a small agency," explained Sheriff McCauley. "We’re managing. We have a lot of different resources that we’ve used. It kind of stretches you a little thin. We handle that plus we still have to do our day to day stuff too."
Anyone with information into this investigation is urged to call the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office at (740) 439-4455. This is the second homicide in Guernsey County this year.
