New Restaurant Coming to Zanesville

Zanesville is welcoming another restaurant to the area.

Ichiban Japanese steakhouse is coming to 2542 Maple Avenue where Spinners used to be. City Zoning Administrator Pat Denbow says all businesses must first come through the Planning and Zoning Department for approval.

"Everything starts with zoning, zoning comes first so they had to just fill out a zoning application in this case there was nothing that required any kind of further approval from board of zoning appeals or anything like that, so we were able to just give it an approval," said Denbow.

Denbow said the restaurant will be rennovating the current building on that property and will also be doing an addition to the side and rear. He says since Maple avenue is a highly traveled road and approved for any kind of commerical use, it makes it an attractive location for businesses.

"For the last couple years, it’s been pretty slow with the economy, but I think the signs are showing that things are starting to pick up. I’ve certainly been taking a lot of calls about commercial properties especially along maple avenue and north point in that area," he said.

He said the next step is for the restaurant to get building permits. A date has not been set for the official opening.
