A Zanesville man is seriously hurt after a one-vehicle crash in Newton Township on Thursday.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. at U.S. Route 22 and State Route 345.

Trooper Stephen Williams with the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol said that 26-year-old Jeffrey Dunwoody was traveling east on U.S. 22 near S.R. 345, when he veered off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and went down a steep embankment.

"The vehicle landed on top of the subject and he was extricated by Newton Township Fire and flown by medflight to OSU medical," said Trooper Williams.

U.S. 22 was temporarily shut down while medflight landed. Trooper Williams said the reconstruction unit is going to have to come in to investigate the crash scene.

"Plotting all of the points we marked here at the scene, possible getting a speed work up if they can, and just making a more detailed map of the scene," he said.

Trooper Williams said driving at an unsafe speed was a factor and Dunwoody is believed to have not been wearing his seat belt. His condition is unknown at this time.
