A stretch of Maple Avenue will be closed temporarily later this week to install a new water main.

The Zanesville Water Department will be installing a new water main across all five lanes of Maple at Harding Road. Both directions of Maple Avenue from Princeton to Bell Street will be closed Thursday from 9 p-m until 9a-m Friday. Public Service Director Mike Sims says this particular project was part of the Harding Road water line improvements last summer but the department ran out of time to finish the project.

"It’s giving us an opportunity to bring the crews in at night and will be done this Thursday and we will start around 9 p-m. We’re scheduling the work til 9 a-m but we expect with no problems that we will be out of the street by 7:30 or 8:00 in the morning," said Sims.

North and south bound traffic on Maple is advised to use Taylor and Bell Streets.

"We’re utilizing that as the most direct detour especially because of large trucks. Obviously there are shorter internal routes that the neighborhood citizens can figure out," said Sims.

No businesses or residents are expected to lose water. If you do happen to lose water, Sims says it will be very late at night and for a very short period of time.
