Local law enforcement agencies teamed up over Superbowl weekend looking for drunk drivers and underage drinkers.

The effort began last Friday and ended on Monday. The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol along with Zanesville, South Zanesville, Dresden, and the Frazeysburg Police Departments and also the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office closely monitored highly traveled roadways.

"What is it’s just traffic enforcement with there’s no R.C. violations occurring and we just ask a little bit more questions and do a little bit more investigative technique," said Lieutenant Steven Rine with the State Highway Patrol.

During the initiative, six drivers were arrested for operating motor vehicles while impaired and 17 were arrested for underage consumption of alcohol. Lt. Rine said working with various law enforcement agencies is beneficial and helps contribute to a safer Ohio.

"It’s a synergistic affect and with now with budgets being a concern and manpower being a concern, you can’t get any better an outcome when you combine agencies and then when we increase our communication," he said.

Officers with the Ohio Investigative Unit of the Department of Public Safety also participated in the effort and issued citations to eight businesses in Muskingum County.
