Zumba has swept the country as a new and fun form of exercise. Inspired by Latin dance, it takes the work out of working out but, it is not just for adults; Genesis Lifestyle and Fitness Center in Zanesville offers it for kids too.

It’s Zumbatomic! A 45 minute class that gets kids moving and grooving. Offered for the little starz, age 5 – 8 and the big starz 9-12, the class uses salsa, hip -hop and reggae styles of dance.

"They don’t have to consider it as exercise it’s fun. I know they love to dance and sing. They just come in and jump around," said instructor Mary West.

West says it’s not only a type of exercise, but also a chance for kids to socialize by getting out of the house and meeting new friends.

"I think kids today sometimes sit around too much and they need to get moving and have less screen time and more active time," said program director Becky Weir.

Sessions are 7 weeks long and offered Saturday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings. To get your child involved in the upcoming session call 454-4767. No dance experience is necessary.
