13-year-old In Custody In Philo Child Shooting/Listen to 9-1-1 Call

A 13-year old juvenile is behind bars tonight in connection with the shooting death of a three-year old Philo boy.

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office received a call just before noon yesterday concerning the shooting. While responding, deputies received a call from Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital that a young boy had been brought in with a gun-shot wound to the face. Three-year old Shannon Harrop Jr. was pronounced dead at the hospital. Captain Jeff LeCocq offered a few details.

"As a result of the investigation into the death of shannon harrop junior, age 3, a 13-year old male has been arrested and is being held at the juvenile detention center," said Capt. LeCocq.

Captain LeCocq would not confirm or deny if the 13-year old suspect was the brother of the victim.

"The juvenile did appear in court this morning for a detention hearing," he said. "As a result of that hearing is continuing to be held at the center."

LeCocq says no more information can be released until formal charges are made. He says he expects that to be tomorrow.

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office says a 13-year-old has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a three year old boy in Philo on Wednesday.  Captain Jeff LeCocq did not reveal many more details other than to say the teenager appeared in juvenile court this morning and remains in custody…LeCocq would not confirm or deny if the victim’s 13-year-old brother was the suspect in the case.  More details on the way…..

A three-year-old boy was shot to death just before noon in Muskingum County.

It happened at 1975 Back Run Road in Philo at 11:40 Wednesday morning. Muskingum County Sheriff Captain Jeff LeCocq says a frantic 911 call came into the Sheriff’s Office concerning the shooting. While responding to the home deputies received a call from Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital that a young boy had been brought in with a gunshot wound.

"Shannon M. Harrop Jr. age three had been pronounced dead at the hospital.  Muskingum County Coroner, Dr. Perry Kalis has been notified he has ordered an autopsy at the Franklin County Morgue," says Captain LeCocq.

Captain LeCocq says the Sheriff’s Office cannot release anymore details about the shooting. But reports from the scene of the incident indicate the child had been shot in the face with a small caliber shotgun inside a bedroom. Captain LeCocq would not confirm that report. The incident remains under investigation.
