House Labor Chairman Joseph Uecker wants any changes to controversial Senate Bill 5 in place by Monday. The measure would restrict the rights of 350,000 public workers in Ohio.
Senate Bill 5 passed the republican led State Senate but has been on hold in the GOP controlled House. Representative Troy Balderson said there are changes taking place with the bill daily with at least sixty amendments on the table.
"I want to see a finished bill. There’s some stuff in it that’s good. There’s some stuff in it that’s not good," explained Balderson. "I would love to see a finished product and I requested a couple of amendments to be put in the bill."
Representative Balderson said his amendments deal with the public safety sector. He believes they should be removed from the bill completely. On another issue-the House Finance Committee is set to tackle Governor Kasich’s proposed budget. Balderson said we’ll soon see how cuts will affect our area.
"I think that it will affect our area somewhat," said Balderson. "I don’t know how much it will affect our area though. "
The official numbers of Governor Kasich’s cuts are expected to be released on Tuesday. Up until now Balderson said they’ve just been dealing with percentages.
