A family’s barn in Perry Township is heavily damaged after a fire broke out Monday night.

Chief Bruce Sindeldecker with the Perry Township Fire Department said it happened around 6:30 p.m. at 795 Rustic Ridge Road.

"The firefighters did a defensive attack and were able to knock it down pretty quickly, so the structure although burned, is still standing," said Chief Sindeldecker.

Washington, Wayne and New Concord Townships were called in for mutual aid to assist with additional water supply. No one was injured, but several baby chicks did die. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
