Free Prom Dresses for Area Teens

Picking out a prom dress is being made a little easier for some area teenagers.

The Annual Adopt-A-Dress Formal Fashion Giveaway was held at Mr. Lee’s Restaurant in Cambridge on Saturday. LouAnn Huthmaker and her husband started the event seven years ago. They spent months collecting dresses to give away for free.

"Just to get something that they can really enjoy to wear and to get to go to the prom, if some of the girls can’t find dresses here, they don’t even get to go," said LouAnn Huthmaker.

In addition to finding that perfect dress, the girls were also treated to free manicures by Valley Beauty School. She said this event is a very rewarding experience to be a part of.

"When you bag them for them and you see their faces and their eyes light up that they got something they really like, that’s really exciting," she said.

In order to receive admission, each person was asked to donate a can of food to help out the Salvation Army’s Food Pantry.

Valley Beauty School is currently offering a $500 scholarship to all seniors graduating to May that are interested in enrolling in the program’s summer session. For more information you can call 740-439-5559.
