Progess continues on the draining of an area lake.
The lake owned by American Electric Power near State Route 313 and Yorker Road is down three feet from where it was Tuesday when they started the process. So far, the weekend rain is the only hic-up in the project.
"Friday night there was that decision to stop the controlled release so we didn’t have any flooding downstream whatsoever," said Bo Keck Muskingum County’s Emergency Management Director. "If we had gotten the heavy rain they would have seen nothing more that what was going on right now with the release."
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is also monitoring the lake drain closely. They gave the permission for the procedure.
"They’ve been involved in this from day one so they are watching the situation. Nobody really knows what’s in the lake as far as the fish. As the lake gets lower they’ll make a decision as to what they are going to do," said Keck.
Keck estimates the lake is 50-60ft deep and once drained will become a ravine. The water is being drained across portions of Guernsey County across State Route 146 and eventually down to Noble County.
