Red Cross Month

Thanks to the work the Red Cross did during WW II in 1941 March was declared Red Cross month and for 70 years it has remained.

Every president has proclaimed it, but even though the Red Cross is recognized by the government, they are not a government funded organization.

"We are solely funded by the good people of Muskingum, Morgan and Perry Counties and our United Way. If it wasn’t for that we wouldn’t be out in the communities helping people," said Marlene Henderson, Red Cross.

December and January were record months for fires in the area. This takes a toll on the budget. Still they are able to help everyone in part because of their volunteers.

"They are the people that are always there for us. They are on call for us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and they are there for the families whenever the need is most," said Henderson.

Another thing people may not be aware  the Red Cross does is they give assistance to Military families. For example, if the wife of a soldier needs help with a furnace the Red Cross can provide funding. Support your Red Cross by donating.
