Several townships and villages in Muskingum County have submitted applications for the 2011 Community Development Block Grant.
The grant, given at the state level allows townships and villages to apply for funding for small projects like lighting, road resurfacing and landscaping. Last year, the county received 236,000 dollars to be distributed to various communities in the county.
"Some of these entities provide matching grants. They’re able to give a little bit of extra monety so that they may apply for 25,000 dollars for something. They may have 10,000 dollars they will apply so that makes it 35,000 dollars," said Jerry Lavy, Muskingum County Commissioner.
No word yet on how much the grant will be for this year. Eight townships and villages in Muskingum County applied for this year’s grant.
