Art Auction Benefits Maysville High Grads

An art auction was held earlier Friday evening at the Welcome Center in downtown Zanesville to support one local high school.

The purpose was to raise money for the Maysville Alumni Scholarship fund. Fifteen Maysville High Alumni artists contributed pieces to the auction. Event Organizer Nancy Ragias says it means a lot to her to be able to do something like this for future graduates because she herself remembered how tough it was finding scholarships when she graduated from high school.

"I have a daughter in college now so i know how important those scholarships can be to a student. Books are expensive, tuition keeps going up, so anything we can do to help them achieve that dream of a college education," said Ragias.

Ragias says the Maysville Alumni Association started just a few years ago and one of their main goals was to establish a scholarship fund. She credits social media sites like Facebook for helping her and other alum get there.

"It really is a great way to reach out and connect with people. I started noticing how many people i went to school with were posting pictures of all the beautiful things they created and it struck me one day how many of them there were so we talked with a couple of them and kind of got their thoughts on what they thought about the idea and here we are," said Ragias.

Ragias hopes to help establish three or four scholarships for Maysville graduates from Friday’s event.
