One local softball team is hitting the field for a good cause. “Turn the hill pink” is the motto for the West Muskingum Middle School softball girls, who are hosting a breast cancer awareness game tomorrow against Philo. Coordinator of the event, Michelle Cardiel, says it’s a day of fun, for a good cause.

“They’re very excited, we had t-shirts made, we did pre-ordered shirts, and we made $800 just selling t-shirts” she says.

In order to prepare for the game, Cardiel says their coach had them do research and presentations to learn a little bit about the disease. One thing in particular makes this group of girls special

“It was the West Muskingum Middle School softball players, it was their idea to do a breast cancer awareness game, and then it just kind of snowballed from there.” says Cardiel

The teams will take the field tomorrow at 6 PM at West Muskingum High School. There will be a 50/50 raffle, and a Chinese auction. Cardiel says they are expecting to raise around $2000. All proceeds from the game will go to benefit the Susan G. Komen fund.
