The community is joining together to help raise money for a national organization.

The 7th Annual "Bet on Baylee" Casino Day and Auction Nite was held on Saturday at the Roseville Community Center. Organizer Jody Thompson said she created the event in honor of her 11-year-old daughter Baylee, who suffers from Mitochondrial Disease.

"We do this in honor of her and give the money to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation which is outside of Pittsburgh and we do this because there is no cure for this disease as of yet," said Jody.

Mitochondrial Diseases result when there is a defect that reduces the ability of the mitochondria to produce energy. It can affect any organ of the body at any age. Symptoms vary and are often progressive. Jody tells other parents in a similar situation that they are not alone.

"Grab support, and they know Mitochondrial Disease has been diagnosed, get a hold of the UMDF because they are just a wonderful advocate for the parents," she said.
