A Cambridge man charged with murder appeared in Guernsey County Common Pleas Court Tuesday afternoon for an arraignment hearing.

43-year-old Michael Smith entered not guilty pleas to charges in connection to the shooting death of 21-year-old Kyle Carter in March.

A grand jury indicted Smith earlier this month on five counts including aggravated murder with a gun specification, attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault.

Cambridge Police say on March 8th Smith shot Carter near the intersection of North 9th Street and Stewart Avenue after an argument.

Carter was taken to Southeastern Med where he later died.

Smith is being held in the Guernsey County Jail.

His case is scheduled to go to trial on June 2nd before Judge David Ellwood.
