Some local residents felt a little foolish sitting on top of the roof of the Genesis Healthplex Friday morning, especially with the chilly air.
18 community members spent time on the structure for this year’s Fools on the Roof Fundraiser. In it’s 10th year the event has brought in $150,000 for the American Cancer Society with the money going towards research.
"We’ve made advancements in cancer treatment because of research and we can continue to improve upon our patient care, treatment options and prevention options," said Michele Hankinson the coordinator of the event.
Each fool needed to raise $500 to be brought off the roof. One prepared for the day by bringing in a portable propane heater, others just bundled up.
"I think it’s awesome for our community," said Anne Nolan from Kroger. "I think Zanesville does a great job with community events and anything to help each other out. Cancer has touched a lot of us in this community so it’s a great cause."
The fundraising doesn’t end for the organization. This year’s Relay for Life is scheduled for June 11-12 at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.
