April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and Genesis Health Care System and Children’s Services are doing their part in raising awareness of the issue.

Around 900 pinwheels lined the front lawn of Genesis Bethesda Thursday afternoon. Each pinwheeel represents one child abuse case in Muskingum County over the past year. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Muskingum County Ron Welch says making people aware that child abuse is an ongoing problem is key.

"I think a lot of people don’t recognize the impact that it has on children from the time they’re born through their adulthood. The cycle of abuse is one that’s been shows to occur where individuals learn violence as a behavior," said Welch.

This coming Saturday, Welch says there will be a family fun fair day at Coburn United Methodist Church to continue raising awareness of the issue.
