The Dreaded Job Hunt

Looking for a job can be challenging, but the Muskingum County Opportunity Center has a few resources that might make it a little easier.

The center provides help with interviewing tips, creating resumes, and filling out applications, all of which are offered for free to the public. Executive Director Bob Mercer said a lot of people claim there are no jobs out there and that’s just not true.

"There are jobs and we have a vacancy list that comes out once a week and you need to check it every week, it changes," said Mercer.

He said some employers prefer the applications be filled out on site, so bringing a small pocket book with all the needed information can be helpful; networking and following up are also important.

"We get people quite frankly that pull up in front of Main Street and get out of their car and come in and jump on the computer and check their email to see if they have a response to applications they have put in online," said Mercer. "Whatever your system is it’s getting into the habit of doing the same things on a daily and weekly basis."

The center is located at 503 Main Street in Zanesville and is open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
