West Muskingum to Make Cuts

A tough economy is forcing West Muskingum Local Schools to cut more than 18 positions.

Superintendent Sharon Smith says with the loss of federal stimulus funding and to assist in reducing projected deficits they are eliminated the positions beginning next school year.

Jobs cut include six paraprofessionals, four intervention specialists, two title one positions, two language arts, one assistant middle school principal, one business teaching, one third grade and one French position. They will also cut one-half of a technology teaching position.

Smith says the reduction in programs and in personnel will total around $800,000 in savings.
