A woman was shot in the head Wednesday night during a dispute in Muskingum County.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. at 3900 Hemmers Lane in Wayne Township. Sheriff Matt Lutz says several family members were at the residence when the victim was shot by her step-brother following an argument.

"Our deputies got here on the scene, there was some people that had the victim out of the residence. At that point the suspect was still in the residence," he says.

Deputies were able to talk the suspect out and take him into custody. The 35-year-old victim was conscious and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital.

"The female suffered an injury to the head, at this time we do not think it’s going to be a life-threatening injury," says Lutz.

Sheriff Lutz says they are not releasing names at this time. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing with their investigation and interviewing the witnesses. He says they will talk with Prosecutor Mike Haddox Thursday about filing charges in the case.
