It’s National Police Week and Ohio’s Attorney General is doing his part to thank those who help keep us safe.

Speaking on the lawn of the Licking County Courthouse, Attorney General Mike Dewine thanked Licking County deputies, police officers, and state troopers for their continued dedication and service to public safety. Wednesday’s ceremony was also a time to remember those in Licking County that have fallen in the line of duty.

"We are not going to forget them. One police officer was back in the 1880’s. We remember his name today, we remembered what he did, and we will do that every single day. That is the commitment, we will not forget," said Dewine.

Dewine says even in these tough economic times and Governor Kasich’s recent proposed cuts, he is doing his best to help state law enforcement personnel and ultimately the public.

"We do it by making our state crime lab more efficient. We do it by getting results back on DNA quicker," said Dewine.

So far this year, 6 Ohio police officers have been killed in the line of duty.
