A fire has consumed a historic Perry County school house.
According to Lieutenant Mick Zartman with the New Lexington Fire Department, the fire broke out shortly before midnight last night at the Bristol School House just south of New Lex.
WHIZ spoke with Joseph Boley who owns the school house. He says he called the Sheriff’s office saying there were three people in the lot of the building around 9 pm last night and the next thing he knew, it was up in flames. Boley says it is a tragedy to see such an iconic piece of living history completely destroyed.
The State Fire Marshall’s office has been called in to investigate the fire. The school house was built in the 1880’s and used up until 1960 and was at one time owned by New Lexington City Schools.
