A man accused of stealing more than a million dollars from several area businesses made his intial court appearance in Licking County Common Pleas Court Tuesday.
Court records show that 43-year-old Mark Cherubini of Utica pleaded not guilty to several charges including aggravated theft, money laundering and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
The charges stem from an investigation that began in November of 2010 into the theft of money from three Licking County businesses.
Authorities say for about the past 10 years Cherubini has embezzled and defrauded these companies of around $1.5 million.
Cherubini was arrested last Friday in Muskingum County after authorities say he was believed to be trying to leave the state.
A judge set Cherbuni’s bond at $500,000 which he posted late Tuesday afternoon and is currently out of jail.
