Summer Parade Raises Money for Christmas

The Memorial Day weekend stepped off on a good note for Buckeye Lake, with their 6th annual parade.

The day was sponsored by the Buckeye Lake Museum and although Memorial Day traditionally kicks off the start of the summer season, all proceeds will benefit the Buckeye Lake Community Christmas Celebration. The Director of Buckeye Lake Museum, J-me Braig, said, the organization will provide hats, gloves and coats for kids in need during the winter season.  More then $5,000 was raised and more then 30 units participated.

"I like them all, they’re all fun," said Braig. "I think I like the Humane Society. They all have their little doggies you know. But Little Miss Buckeye Lake is probably our favorite."

The day also marked the 3rd annual Little Miss Buckeye Lake Contest. The contest was open to girls between the ages of 3 and 8 years-old. Former Miss Buckeye Lake, Kathryn Selfe, said it’s a good opportunity to learn to be yourself.

"Well, you can’t be someone you’re not," said Selfe. "You have to be yourself and smile and wave. "

And true to Memorial Day, Selfe said, she wants to be in the army when she grows-up.

If you missed the parade and would like to be apart of the Buckeye Lake Community Christmas Celebration, the event will be held on the 2nd Saturday in December.
