Tornadoes Strike Again

The scenes of devastation have haunted people across the United States as tornadoes rip through our country…providing us with a reminder that this can happen anywhere.

Executive Director of the Muskingum Valley Red Cross Marlene Henderson says when it comes to preparing for a tornado, prepare a plan.  Pick a place where family members can come together if a tornado is headed your way.

"We have had our fair share of high winds, straight line winds, F1 tornadoes over the years. Everybody needs to be very, very prepared for that. The night before last…the storm that rolled through was horrible," said Henderson.

With your plan, Henderson says it is also important to assemble a disaster supplies kit including a flashlight, water and other essentials.  Acting early helps to save lives but knowing what to do after a tornado is just as important.

"Watch out for fallen power lines, trees that could actually roll and fall more and hurt you. Be very careful of trying to get out of your house in case there’s damage also. There’s a lot of things that everyone should be very much aware of," said Henderson.
