Two women are taken to the hospital after being struck by an SUV.

It happened around 9:15 Friday evening on West Main Street in Zanesville.

According to Officer Tom Porter with the Zanesville Police Department, the women appeared to be leaving the M.A.S.S. Bingo Hall when they used the crosswalk to cross West Main Street. Officer Porter says a female driver in a Jeep Liberty was traveling eastbound and struck the two women while they were in the crosswalk.

Porter says both women were taken to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital with head injuries. He says the driver of the Jeep attempted to stop, but the accident was likely due to the driver’s inattention. Porter says the driver was cited with failure to yield.
