Two people were sent to the hospital Wednesday afternoon, after a bizarre accident in downtown Zanesville.
It happened just after 2 p.m. at the corner of South and Seventh streets, when an ambulance from Scioto County collided with a van from Muskingum County.
Sergeant Chris Rice, from the Zanesville Police Department, says the gray van was headed west on South Street, and the Life Ambulance was southbound on Seventh, when the two collided at the intersection. The wreck caused the gray van to hit the corner of Immanuel United Church of Christ, which caused minor damage to the building, and extensive damage to a sign out front. As a precaution, the Zanesville Fire Department used their foam spray to prevent the van and the sign from catching fire.
The van was traveling to Beverly with a patient at the time of the crash. That patient was transported by Community Ambulance to Good Samaritan hospital, along with the driver of the van. The accident remains under investigation.
