Some exciting news for the new Muskingum Rec Center coming to Ohio University Zanesville.

The Rec Center board has chosen Chicago based Williams Architects to design the facility. OU-Z Dean Dr. Jim Fonseca says the decision was made after interviewing several other firms and decided williams would be the best fit for OU-Z.

"They’ve done dozens and dozens of these centers all over the United States. For example, they were the only firm that has an aquatic engineer on their staff so they really specialize in pools and the architectural design and the construction of the pool is extremely important to the project," said Fonseca.

Fonseca says he is excited and ready for the new facility to become a part of the southeast Ohio community.

"We are hoping that it will be late in this calendar year or very early next year when we will actually start construction," said Fonseca.

The Rec Center will feature two pools, a track, aerobic classes, exercise equipment, and many more amenities for guests and will be open to the public.
