Dresden Post #399 4, Coshocton Post #65 Cherokees 4 (F/6 inn)
(DRESDEN) – If a tie is like kissing your sister, Dresden Post #399 doesn’t mind too much.
After early struggles on the mound against the Coshocton Post #65 Cherokees, Dresden put the pressure on late, getting some aid from high winds in order to pull out a 4-4 tie Tuesday night.
The two teams were scoreless heading into the fourth inning, when Dresden starting pitcher Seth Brown (Maysville) walked four of the six batters he faced in the frame. Those free passes allowed two runs to score for Coshocton.
The mistakes continued after Brown was pulled in favor of Garrett Albertson (Tri-Valley). Albertson balked while taking on his first batter. That allowed another Cherokee run to score.
The Scottie would also struggle with control in the sixth, walking the bases loaded. Reliever Zach Girton (Tri-Valley) came in and allowed Coshocton’s fourth run to cross the plate on a base on balls.
With darkness and storms looming, Dresden stared down its last chance. Jimmy Moore (Philo) opened the bottom of the sixth with a single. He was, however, thrown out on his way to third after Jason Mahon (Tri-Valley) hit a single to rightfield.
Skylor Dennis launched a perfect throw to the bag, hanging Moore out to dry and leaving two out in the inning.
Wes Hudson (Zanesville) kept the inning alive with a single, scoring Mahon from second. A walk a batter later set up Daniel Sensabaugh (Tri-Valley) for a dynamite shot to left field that hit the scoreboard, knotting the game at four apiece.
The game was called as a result of darkness and weather.
Coshocton is home this weekend in its annual Babcock Classic. The Cherokees open play Thursday night against Tuscarawas County.
Dresden heads to Cambridge for a doubleheader Wednesday, before returning home Friday to take on Zanesville at 5:30 pm.
