Dresden Post #399 10, Southeastern Black Sox 2 (Game 1)

(DRESDEN) – A four run inning proved to be more than enough for Dresden Post #399 in the opener of its Sunday doubleheader against the Southeastern Black Sox.
Dresden picked up the win, 10-2, scoring in only two innings, the first and the sixth. Daniel Sensabaugh (Tri-Valley) and Jason Mahon both knocked in a run with singles in the first. Those base knocks served as bookends to Nick Doorman’s two-run fly ball.
The bomb to left centerfield appeared to be a routine out, but a drop as the fielder approached the warning track kept the inning going.
Southeastern broke through for a run in the second inning. Another scored in the top half of the sixth on a passed ball that beat catcher Brock Welker (Tri-Valley) and reached the backstop.
With the score 4-2 midway through the sixth inning, Dresden tightened the leash on starting pitcher Wes Hudson (Zanesville). But there was no need.
Dresden’s bats exploded for six insurance runs in the inning. An error on a routine grounder to third off the bat of Garrett Albertson (Tri-Valley) scored the first run of the frame.
Fellow Scottie Matt West added a single a batter later, increasing Dresden’s lead to 6-2. Alex Edwards (Maysville) padded that lead with a comeback single off the mound. That hit allowed West and Albertson to score.
Welker capped the scoring with a two-run single, sending Cam Brewer and Edwards across the plate.
Dresden plays host to the Coshocton Post #65 Cherokees in their next game. That game will be played at Kenny Wolford Park, Tuesday at 6 pm.
