‘STARS’: Sensitivity, Attitude, Responsibility, Self-esteem…A program dedicated to giving middle school girls confidence in themselves.

The summer program, began when Executive Director, Cindy Brandi, experienced, as a teacher, that many middle school girls began to loose their confidence, therefore affecting their grades and friendships. Brandi said, her goal is to make a difference in the girl’s lives.

"I feel that if I can change even a few girls by having them be here, then I have provided a service, because I think we need this in our community," said Brandi. "I mean, every community, needs to empower their young people to make the best in themselves. And I think this program can do it."

One girl confident enough to speak with us, Ceila Spiker, said, she feels she can do more now with her life and encourages others to feel the same.

Spiker would like to tell other girls, "Try to think about positive things about yourself, and get more involved in activities. I would tell her just-don’t listen to other people."

STARS is offered to girls between 6th and 8th grade. More than 90 girls are taking part in this years event.
