Raising Awareness of Domestic Violence

The recent Muskingum County shooting that left one man dead in an apparent domestic dispute is raising awareness about the issue of domestic violence.

Executive Director of Tansitions, a domestic violence shelter in Zanesville, Molly Correllus says the facility not only serves as a safe place to stay, but a resource to help address victim’s needs.

"We provide legal advocacy here so if someone is in a domestic violence situation, if they come in, then we will give them support," said Correllus.

That support is done through the shelter’s core advocacy program, a program designed to let victims know that there is help and resources for them.

"They can sit down and talk to the women and help them understand what they are going through and try to educate them more on domestic violence," said Correllus.

The shelter housed 97 women and 76 children last year. If you would like more information you can call Transitions at at 454-3213.
