At the Jesse Owens facility in Columbus Ohio, day one of the OHSAA Track and Field State Championships did not prove to be too fruitful for local athletes. As far as track events go, only one team and one individual qualified for the finals. Mara Cain of Meadowbrook made it in the Division II 100 M hurdles, while the Ridgewood Boys made the finals in the Division III 4X100 M relay.
In the field, JC Murasky played with fire, but did not get burned. After qualifying for the finals in shotput, the Ohio State bound Murasky faulted on his first two finals throws, only to rise above, throwing a 56′ 8” gem with his final attempt, vaulting himself from eighth to third on the podium. Sheridan’s Sarah Clow was also impressive with a fifth place finish in the discus.
Day two of the meet is tomorrow, June 4th.
