The Zanesville Fire Department said goodbye to two of its members Thursday.

A retirement party was held for Assistant Chief Bruce Burley and Firefighter Herb Michel. Burley has spent the past 24 years of his 30 year tenure in his role as assistant chief.

"I hate to leave, I wish I could stay longer but the time has come to move on and pursue other activities," said Burley.

Burley plans to catch up on a few projects at home. His official last day with the department is Sunday. Retiring Firefighter Herb Michel says it’s been a great experience serving the City of Zanesville for the past 30 years and working with a great group of firefighters.

"It went by fast, now that i think about it, and i’ve enjoyed it all, had a good time," said Michel.

Michel plans to do some traveling once he retires.
